Time to book your winter tyres

From 1 December, winter tyres are compulsory in winter road conditions, and this requirement remains in force until 31 March. October and November are the busiest weeks of the year at tyre centres — if you book early, you’ll get a time that suits you rather than one that’s left over.

Everything for winter – on the same visit

Studded or friction – we help you choose

There is no single winter tyre that is best for everyone. Studded tyres give the most grip on bare ice, while friction tyres – studless winter tyres – are quieter and work well where roads are usually ploughed and salted. What matters is how far you drive, which roads you use and how often you head out into the countryside around Borås. Tell us what your week looks like and we will recommend what fits – not automatically the most expensive option.

Book before the first frost

On the first icy morning everyone calls at once. Book your winter swap in October and you get a time that suits you instead of driving on summer tyres while the queue grows.

New to Swedish winters?

The law requires at least 3 mm of tread on winter tyres, but grip on snow and slush gets noticeably worse well before that. If you are unsure what your car needs, ask us – we measure at every swap.

Winter tyre questions

Frequently asked questions about winter tyres in Borås

Winter rules in Sweden can be confusing if you are new here. These are the questions we hear most – call 033-12 62 32 if yours is not covered.

Are winter tyres mandatory in Sweden?

Yes. Cars must have winter tyres in winter road conditions from 1 December to 31 March. Road conditions decide – snow, ice, slush or frost on the road during that period means winter tyres are required.

Can I fit winter tyres before 1 December?

Yes. Studded tyres may be used from 1 October, and friction tyres can go on whenever you like. Many people swap in October or November so they are not caught out when the weather turns.

Should I choose studded or friction tyres?

Studded tyres grip best on bare ice, while friction tyres are quieter and work well on ploughed and salted roads. It depends on where and how much you drive – call us and we will help you decide.

What is the minimum tread depth for winter tyres?

At least 3 mm while the winter requirement applies. Grip on snow and slush drops noticeably before that, so we tell you when your tyres are getting close.

How old can winter tyres be?

There is no legal age limit, but rubber hardens over time and grip suffers. The manufacturing week is printed on the sidewall as four digits – 4119 means week 41 of 2019. We check it during the swap.

How much does it cost to switch to winter tyres?

Swapping to winter wheels already fitted on rims costs SEK 350 for a standard car. Fitting new tyres onto your rims is a separate job – call for a price.

Can you store my summer wheels?

Yes, in our tyre storage for SEK 900. Your wheels will be ready in spring, and we let you know in good time if they need replacing.

Do you sell new winter tyres?

Yes, both studded and friction tyres. We recommend based on how you drive and give you a quote before ordering anything.

Why should I check tyre pressure in winter?

Tyre pressure drops as it gets colder, and low pressure means less grip and more wear. We check the pressure at every swap.

Are studded tyres banned anywhere?

Yes, some streets in larger cities have studded tyre bans, including in Gothenburg. If you often drive into the city, that may affect your choice between studded and friction tyres.

Do you fit winter tyres on motorhomes?

Yes, motorhomes, electric cars and vans are welcome. An extra charge may apply depending on the vehicle – call with the model for an answer.

How do I book my winter swap?

Call 033-12 62 32 and you get a time straight away. We are open Monday to Thursday 07:00–16:30 and Friday 07:00–11:00.
