When the steering wheel shakes
Wheel balancing in Borås – stop the vibrations
If the steering wheel starts to shake as you reach motorway speed, the cause is usually in the wheels. We balance them so the car runs smoothly again – and check whether something else is behind it.

Time to book your winter tyres
From 1 December, winter tyres are compulsory in winter road conditions, and this requirement remains in force until 31 March. October and November are the busiest weeks of the year at tyre centres — if you book early, you’ll get a time that suits you rather than one that’s left over.

Vibration and wear
When balancing is not the whole answer
Vibrations sometimes have more than one cause. These are the services that most often go together with wheel balancing.

Finding the real cause
Vibration is a symptom, not a diagnosis
The most common reason for a shaking steering wheel is unbalanced wheels – often because a balancing weight has fallen off. But vibrations can also come from a damaged rim or a deformed tyre, and then no amount of balancing will help. We have specialised in wheel alignment since 1976 and look at the whole wheel, so you do not pay for a fix that does not solve the problem.
Balancing or alignment?
A steering wheel that shakes at a certain speed usually points to balancing. A car that pulls to one side or a crooked steering wheel points to alignment. Not sure? Call and describe how it feels.
Do not leave it too long
Unbalanced wheels are unpleasant to drive with and wear your tyres unevenly. The longer it goes on, the more of the tyres’ life disappears.

Balancing questions
Frequently asked questions about wheel balancing
These are the questions we hear most about vibrations and balancing. Call 033-12 62 32 if yours is not here.
How do I know if my wheels are unbalanced?
The clearest sign is a steering wheel that vibrates at a certain speed, often somewhere around 80–100 km/h. The vibration comes and goes with your speed rather than being there all the time.
What do unbalanced wheels feel like?
A shaking in the steering wheel, sometimes through the whole car or the seat. It is usually strongest within a certain speed range and fades when you go faster or slower.
What is the difference between balancing and alignment?
Balancing is about weight being spread evenly around the wheel, alignment about the angle the wheels sit at. Vibrations point to balancing, while a car that pulls to one side or a crooked steering wheel points to alignment.
Why does the steering wheel still shake after balancing?
A balancing weight may have come off, the rim may be damaged or the tyre may be deformed. We check the whole wheel so the right fault gets fixed.
Do new tyres need balancing?
Yes, always. When a new tyre is fitted on a rim, the wheel is balanced before it goes on the car.
How much does wheel balancing cost?
It depends on the wheels and how many need balancing. Call 033-12 62 32 for a price for your car.
How long does balancing take?
The balancing itself is quick – taking the wheels off and putting them back on takes most of the time. Call and we will tell you how long we need for your car.
Can a damaged rim cause vibrations?
Yes. A rim that has hit a kerb or a pothole can cause vibrations that no balancing will fix. We check the rim at the same time.
Can I drive with unbalanced wheels?
You can, but it is unpleasant and wears the tyres unevenly. The longer it goes on, the more tyre life you lose – better to book a time soon.
Do wheels need balancing after a puncture repair?
Often, yes. A repair can change the weight distribution, so we check the balance when we fix the tyre.
Do you balance wheels on motorhomes and vans?
Yes, special vehicles are welcome. An extra charge may apply depending on the vehicle – call with the model for an answer.
Where is the workshop?
At Södra Däckvägen 3 in the Nordskogen industrial area of Borås. Turn in at Stena Metall and continue further in – we are on the inside of the area.
